Project Description

As the first hospitality educator globally, the Glion Institute of Higher Education launched the International Hotel Development & Finance specialization, which focuses on hotel asset management and concept creation. The specialization is part of five interrelated courses taught and developed by HoCoSo’s leading experts Jonathan Humphries and Katharine Le Quesne.

The core idea behind this program is to teach students to adapt views from the owner’s and developer’s perspective. The course aims to provide students with the necessary skills to analyze critical success factors in asset management and also be able to develop new products and concepts. Within this specialization, students will get in touch with different industry players as well as professionals and learn to understand the importance of maximizing the asset value and driving profits for the owner.

Guest lectures from renown industry experts such as John Litzenberger and Borivoj Vokrinek, are held in collaboration with highly reputed companies providing students with best practices industry examples.

Hotel Asset Management Introduction is one subject that offers insights into global ownership, brand expansion strategies and performance benchmarking. Hotel Feasibility and International Development teaches students about concept development and market planning and feasibility, taught by Jonathan Humphries. The course Hotel Finance & Valuation focuses on evaluating hotel projects and KPIs. Global Resort Development, which is taught by Katherine Le Quesne, gives students a comprehensive view on master planning, product categories, performance and critical success factors in resort development. Lastly, EMEA Hotel Market Insight was the final module of the specialization, where students visit new hotel concepts and meet leading industry innovators. During the very first field trip, students gained practical insights into the entrepreneurial hospitality market of Amsterdam.

Jonathan Humphries comments on the course: ‘Together with Glion, we developed this innovative format for students that combines an intensive theoretical academic curriculum with a practical and stimulating approach. Students will leave the courses with a complete toolbox, which they can apply to any given situation combined with a creative and analytical mindset.
